Rennrad Urlaub über den
Lake Distrikt Region Norditalien

Lake Maggiore – Lake Varese – Lake Lugano – Lake Como – Madonna del Ghisallo

We simply believe in the idea we can transform the Northern Italy’s Lake District in a recreational bicycling area for riders who are coming from all over the world and in a holiday place for non-riders as well, so you can realise how the total experience of staying at our bike hotel and the biking experience seamlessly tie the two together.
So, do you want to come for riding here ?

Bici da strada   Salite   MTB   Piste ciclabili   Escursionismo

All daily rides start from our Eco Bike Hotel Ungheria located in the town of Varese.
The hotel is family owned and operated for three generations. All the family works here. Our staff shares the Italian passion for cycling with our guests.
Eco Bike Hotel Ungheria and GPSVarese are composed by the same team that works together.
Please read what our guests think about us: http://www.gpsvarese.it/i_testimonials.asp
The best way to understand the total experience of staying at our hotel and the biking experience is to read their testimonials.
Who can know better then them about what we are doing ?

Lakes of Northern Italy Bike Tours

The Giro d’Italia almost always visits the region. The one day Autumn classic, Tour of Lombardy, or “the race of the falling leaves”, marks the end of the UCI World Tour calendar. Other cycling events include the Coppa Bernocchi in September and the Tre Valli Varesine in October, one-day road races included in the UCI Europe Tour calendar.
In March, the Province of Varese hosts the Trofeo Binda, a one-day road race included in UCI Women's World Tour calendar.
In September takes place the Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) European Training Centre (ETC) for Australian athletes is located in Gavirate on the shores of Lake Varese.
Here’s a look at: http://www.gpsvarese.it/i_news_dettaglio.asp?ID=102. You can meet Aussies training in this area.
Orica-Bike Experience, the professional Australian cycling team, has their secondary training base on the shores of Lake Varese.

From Malpensa Milan Airport (22 miles – 35 km far from town of Varese) you can fly to many international destinations non stop.

Tours feature undulating and peaceful roads with little traffic among gently rolling hillsides, valleys and mountains, challenging climbs, descents and above all, views across the Prealps, Alps, the Monte Rosa Massif and Italy’s northern lakes. Eleven lakes of different sizes surround Varese. You will mainly follow small and scenic roads, with few road signs.

The small Shrine of Madonna del Ghisallo is at Magreglio (CO) between the two branches of Lake Como and it isn’t far from Varese : approx. 80 km - 49 miles. It’s an all-day ride. The Madonna del Ghisallo is venerated by international cycling as patroness of cycling and the place has become the focus of many riders' pilgrimages.

The three most important lakes in the area are, from west to east, Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Como.
Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second-largest lake, is the longest lake of the Italian Lakes measuring 65 km. long and has a surface area of 215 square kilometres – 83 square miles.
Lake Como and Lake Lugano are smaller.
Between and around these are several minor lakes - such as Lake Orta, west of Maggiore, and Lake Varese, midway between Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano, as well as countless Alpine tarns trapped in the high valleys.
Eleven lakes of different sizes surround Varese and Como.
The southern end of area is relatively flat ( approx 300 metres .a.s.l. – 990 feet .a.s.l.) and more peopled, but the northern end is mountainous (approx 1.000 metres a.s.l. - 3,280 feet a.s.l.) as the lakes reach the foothills of the Alps in Switzerland.
The region offers classic images of Italy: balconies over blue water, sleepy cobblestone villages and stone cottages, secluded gardens and exotic flora.

You might think that, alas, this is not the place for gentle and slow cycling. And you would be right. However, we planned itineraries where you can avoid cycling any big hills and medium sized hills too. We are adept at avoiding as many as possible main busy roads.
